Single Arm Row: All muscles in the body are connected one way or another. But one of the muscle groups that greatly influence others are the muscles of the back since they have so much reach. It is very important to keep them strong, much more with the course of the years.

There are a few things that give the upper body that outstanding V-like frame. One of them is having a strong and well-defined back. As a fitness professional and competitor, the back is a body part that is highly emphasized while sculpting the body. When I compete, I must be very mindful of my back since I must exhibit it nicely. You should be very mindful of strengthening it due to the benefits that having a healthy strong back provide.

Benefits

Having strong back muscles keeps you healthy and gives you a great figure. This translates into the following:

  • less tension build-up in the back
  • less pain and discomfort
  • the strength that facilitates daily living
  • a straighter posture, not allowing you to slouch and keeping your core tight
  • a leaner more confident look

Exercise of the Week

One of the resistance training exercises that strengthen the back is the row. Rows are amazing to help strengthen the back. They are highly regarded since they are so versatile and engage numerous muscles. They target the latissimus dorsi, traps, rhomboids, and even the biceps and rear shoulders as well. Remember the more muscles involved in the exercise the better.

There are several variations. Rows can be performed with dumbbells, kettlebells, barbells, or cables. The positioning of the body can also vary. Here I am performing single arm dumbbell (kettlebell) rows:
