Who doesn’t want to have nice abs?

People always ask about ways to get a flat stomach. You don’t get flat abs by doing thousands of sit-ups. But by working out all muscles of your body and eating a clean diet. However there are exercises that help those ab muscles get tight and defined.

The abdomen encompasses the area below the chest and above the pelvis. Having nice and toned abs strengthens the core, the whole circumference around the midsection.

The ab muscles have numerous functions. They play a role in the respiratory system since they help you to breathe. They also assist many bodily processes, like in childbirth, urination, defecation, coughing, and vomiting. I know, I know…not the prettiest processes -yet necessary.

Additionally, the core is tightly engaged in posture and stabilization. Having a strong core also helps in daily movements and the prevention and management of back pain.

I really enjoy these exercises….   They are highly engaging and can be performed anywhere.  This week’s video clip demonstrates how to perform Bicycle Crunches and Leg Raises with Hip Lifts

Bicycle Crunches

Like the name says it, the motion of bicycle crunches is like that of bicycling. Instead of the regular Crunch, you keep both legs off the floor and keep on kicking. They work heavily the lower abs. Simultaneously, they engage the upper abs and leg muscles.

Leg Raises

Leg raises are performed by laying on the floor and lifting straight legs up and down off the floor. In the video clip, I am lifting the hips off the floor after raising the legs. This addition makes the exercise more challenging and engages the upper abs a little bit more.
